The Local adheres to a set of journalistic principles to ensure fairness, accuracy, transparency, and editorial independence.

Fairness. We clearly label opinion pieces. We give people, companies, or organizations that are publicly accused or criticized a chance to respond before we publish those criticisms or accusations. We make a genuine and reasonable effort to contact them and if they decline to comment, we say so.

Accuracy. We strive to report every story fairly and accurately. All stories are bylined. When we make a mistake, whether in fact or in context, we correct it promptly and in a transparent manner, acknowledging the nature of the error. Corrections are made with a note at the bottom of the article indicating the changes that were made. If you find a mistake in The Local, please contact us at info@thelocal.to

Editorial independence. We maintain full editorial independence from all funding sources and partnerships. As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on various sources of revenue to pay our staff and contributors, and to offer high-quality content that is freely accessible to everyone. We accept financial contributions from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, but our editorial judgments are made independently and not on the basis of who funds us or their specific interests. Acceptance of funding does not mean endorsement of financial supporters or their work. We may, from time to time, receive funding to support content dealing with particular topics, but we maintain full editorial control, and do not offer a right of review prior to publication.

Transparency. We are clear with readers about our funding and revenue sources. We make public all sources of funding above $5,000 per year. We do not currently do advertising or sponsored content, but if we do, they will be clearly labelled as such. We maintain full editorial independence from all funding sources and partnerships.
