Is there something you think The Local should investigate? Do you have files and documents you want to share with our reporters? Have you encountered something that you think is illegal, unethical, or harmful? We want to hear from you.

As journalists, protecting our sources is fundamental to how we work. When you share a tip with us, you can choose to keep your identity private (only our journalists know who you are) or you can remain completely anonymous (no one knows who you are).

To reach a specific member of our newsroom, contact them directly. Specify if you wish to keep your identity private. Or email our general tip line: localtips@proton.me

Online

Before transmitting any messages or files online, we recommend you use a secure web browser such as Tor, which allows you to browse the web without websites learning your location. To further protect yourself, use a public wireless network, such as WiFi found in a coffee shop or public library.

Once you have downloaded Tor and established a secure connection, open this webpage in your Tor browser and continue reading below to view our options for securely submitting tips.

Email

If you would like to email your tip to us, we recommend that you do not use your personal email. Instead, create a secondary email using a secure mailing service such as Proton Mail, which offers end-to-end encryption. Note that Proton Mail does not encrypt subject lines, so do not put sensitive or identifying information in the subject line.

Once you have your secure email account, send your tip to: localtips@proton.me
