Mississauga Ward 11

Biography: Brad Butt is a former MP who has been the councillor for Ward 11 since 2022. He represented Mississaga–Streetsville in Parliament as a Conservative from 2011 to 2015, when he lost re-election. Butt was vice president of government and stakeholder relations at the Mississauga Board of Trade before being elected to municipal office. As a councillor, Butt called on Premier Doug Ford’s government to protect the role of school trustees in the face of the provincial takeover of the role at two Peel region school boards. He asked Peel police to consider decreasing its budget, helped extend an incentive that waived charges for developers building rental housing, and tried to stop the use of speed cameras, but was defeated by other councillors. He opposed a development of three high-rise towers in the ward, calling them “way too high, way too dense.”

Platform: Butt says he’ll continue to keep an eye on spending at the Region of Peel and build more parks, bridges, and infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists.

Biography: According to his website, Amin Nanji says he’s the owner of two food distribution companies, a volunteer math teacher and a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Platform: If elected, Nanji says he’ll create volunteer representatives for each area of the ward, scrutinize new developments near Erin Mills Town Centre, and make sure infrastructure keeps up with new housing. He wants to implement new traffic-calming measures, spend tax dollars responsibly, and use technology to improve city services.

Biography: Dev Vashi says he’s a student in the United Kingdom and former campaign assistant with the federal Liberals. He’s critical of Mississauga’s current council for raising property taxes.

Platform: Vashi’s priorities include changing the funding formula for Peel Region, looking for other revenue sources before raising taxes, repairing infrastructure, and making streets safer with speed bumps and cameras. He proposes creating student co-ops, and “small business navigators” at city hall to help entrepreneurs get permits faster. He wants to fund roads and parks, and expand programs for seniors and youth with “zero capital rent.”
