While artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing at a rapid pace and has the potential to transform how we live and work, it is an unreliable source of information or insight and is increasingly being employed to generate content masking as original journalistic work. While The Local does, like many other newsrooms, on occasion use AI tools to aid in rote tasks like transcription or data analysis, those processes will continue to include human verification and supervision at every step. Outside these narrow use cases, The Local is committed to the thorough scrutiny and fact-checking of all our stories in order to safeguard against AI use, and preserve the integrity and originality of our journalism.
