Ward 3 — Etobicoke-Lakeshore

Biography: Mihaela Andrei is a sales representative at a brokerage, and says on her website that she serves as board president at the lakefront condo towers 20 and 30 Shore Breeze Drive.

Platform: Andrei’s first priority is “gently” growing Etobicoke-Lakeshore’s housing density, at the same rate as community infrastructure like transit, recreation centres, and doctors’ offices. She wants to protect affordable housing in the ward, and prioritize community policing and prevention-based safety efforts, like mental health and addiction services. She argues for a more efficient bureaucracy for small businesses in the ward.

Biography: Anthony Internicola has run for council five times, most recently placing 18th out of 23 candidates in a Scarborough Southwest by-election in 2023. He has unsuccessfully run for provincial and federal elections as a member of the New Blue Party of Ontario, which opposes “woke” ideology and diversity initiatives, and the People’s Party of Canada.

Internicola describes himself as an Uber and Lyft driver, and life coach on LinkedIn.

Platform: As part of a 21-point platform, Internicola says he will oppose safe consumption sites for people who use drugs and instead focus on other resources, like mental health services and supportive housing. He also says he wants to see more resources for all first responders, more public washrooms, and more services for youth and seniors. He wants to advocate for a major events venue in the ward.

Biography: Amber Morley is the current councillor for Ward 3 — Etobicoke-Lakeshore, the deputy mayor for Etobicoke. She was elected in 2022, an extraordinarily rare case of a candidate beating an incumbent councillor. She is an ally of Mayor Olivia Chow.

Morley has supported bike lanes on Bloor Street and is now being sued (along with the city and another official) for $10 million by business owners who say the lanes are a nuisance.

Morley has said that she was not involved in choosing 66 Third Street as the location of a new homeless shelter, but supports the shelter “if it is designed and operated in a way that is responsive to the feedback shared by community members,” saying that the one existing shelter in Etobicoke-Lakeshore is not enough.

In 2024, Morley brought a motion to increase the police budget by $12.6 million, which she argued could coexist with reforms on racism and sexism. Morley has also clashed with police over the handling of pro-Palestine demonstrations, co-signing a letter with some other councillors expressing concern after police were accused of using excessive force against protesters.

Morley was supportive of the renaming Yonge-Dundas Square to Sankofa Square, describing the renaming as a way to “hold space for community members who have long been disregarded and discarded in violent and traumatic ways.”

She voted in favour of a referendum on the proposed Billy Bishop airport expansion and led the charge to end the lease of a local yacht club whose members were accused of belligerence and littering in the Humber River.

Morley was formerly the director of the South Etobicoke Youth Assembly at LAMP Community Health Centre, and an administrative assistant and constituency assistant in the offices of councillors Peter Milczyn and John Campbell. She also worked at LAMP CHC during the COVID-19 pandemic, working on a team that organized 70 vaccine clinics.

Biography: Ted Opitz was a one-term Conservative MP for Etobicoke–Centre in the government of former prime minister Stephen Harper. In 2011, Opitz won his seat by just 26 votes. He lost in 2015, when a red wave brought former prime minister Justin Trudeau to power.

Opitz ran again, in the same ward, under Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre in 2025, coming second to Liberal Yvan Baker.

While MP, Opitz spoke in support of free-trade deals, like the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and voted to prevent community input on airport expansions.

In 2015, Opitz met with representatives of an armoured-vehicle manufacturer and lauded the company in an online statement. The company, Streit Group, was later accused by United Nations investigators of violating arms embargoes by failing to prevent its vehicles from being armed with machine guns, and ending up in the wrong hands in war-torn countries like Sudan and Libya.

Opitz says on his website that he served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 33 years before becoming a politician.

Platform: Opitz says that as a councillor, he will be “visible in the community, listen before acting,” and be accessible to constituents every day. He lists his priorities as supporting neighbourhood safety, standing up for local businesses, improving city services and ensuring value for tax dollars.

On his Instagram, he pointed out a misspelled street sign in Etobicoke as an example of costly mistakes by the city that shouldn’t happen.
